Classic Car Adventures, Car Hunting, and more!

Chasing cars and car hunting can lead to many incredible and unusual adventures. A few of my most memorable journeys are The Great Tassie Road Trip in the Q-Car, rescuing Mothball, the pilgrimage to Mount Panorama, Bathurst, and celebrating a V8 Supercar Championship victory.

Mothball is one of those stories that has ended up folklore. Mention the Falcon GT on a crane, and the majority of Aussie Muscle Car fans will remember the story, after all it was headline news across every major channel! Whilst the crane lift itself didn’t take all that long, the background of this incredible discovery was many months in the making. For me though, the best part was having the car on display to the public, so thousands of enthusiasts could see the car up close, and really understand the aura of this car!

The Great Tassie Road Trip was a huge adventure all across Tasmania, hunting cars and meeting loads of enthusiasts along the way! Starting in the north, our journey took us down many back streets and laneways, discovering some incredible cars, and also visiting many of the famous landmarks across the apple isle, including the top of Mount Wellington, the Richmond Bridge, Cascade Brewery, Cataract Gorge, and of course sailing back to the mainland on the Spirit of Tasmania.

Mount Panorama, Bathurst. For Australian motor racing fans, this is the greatest race in our country. I’ve watched this race on television every year since I was a young kid, but never managed to get it together and visit. In 2022, I was lucky enough to watch the race from the pit garage with Erebus Motorsport, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Not only did I get to experience everything that Bathurst had to offer (including a huge amount of mud!), I was lucky enough to see it up close, from the grid and the garage, an unforgettable first visit to Bathurst, and one that I will always remember.

In 2023 I was back at Mount Panorama, this time being lucky enough to wear the champagne spray! Erebus Motorsport car #99 managed to finish on Pole Position, which was an incredible achievement! Watching the Top Ten Shootout from the Erebus garage was something I can’t even put in to words. The silence and tension, followed by the explosion of celebration, induced shouting and screaming and even goosebumps! The team ended up finishing second and eigth, a monumental effort, as well as being frustratingly close to the ultimate prize of victory at Bathurst.

However, despite those memorable experiences at Bathurst, the final race of 2023 at the VALO Adelaide 500 may just be the biggest highlight of all. Heading into this round, Erebus was leading the teams championship, and Brodie Kostecki was leading the drivers championship, with teammate Will Brown sitting in third position overall. The strength of the team was evident from the very first practise laps, with another Pole Position achieved before the Teams Championship was awarded, followed by the Drivers Championship which was won by Brodie Kostecki in the final race. So many smiles, celebrations, bottles of Coke spraying everywhere, and the now iconic image of the confetti covered car - which was not planned - but happened to work thanks to the paper sticking to the Coca-Cola that covered the car during the celebrations!
