Auctioneer and Classic Car Sales
It is hard to imagine a better career for someone who talks about cars all day long! Becoming an auctioneer, and a fast talking specialist car auctioneer at that, has been a role that I’ve enjoyed ever since I was trained how. My experience, and my voice box stamina, was built conducting weekly auctions at Manheim and Grays. two of the leading vehicle auction houses in Australia.
Beginning in the salvage section, auctioning damaged and written off vehicles, I was promtoted to the largest weekly passenger car auction in Australia, where nearly 1,000 second hand vehicles would be auctioned each week. I also worked with leading manufacturers like Ford, Holden, Mercedes Benz, and BMW, auctioning their company fleet vehicles directly to dealers. Quarterly special event auctions were also held, where incredible cars like a McLaren 650S, Lamborghini Aventador, and a Ferrari 458 Italia, would be auctioned in front of a public live audience.
After conducting hundreds of public auctions, my career continued to grow and I moved into ‘Dealer Only’ fleet vehicle auctions, travelling across Australia and hosting auctions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth on a fortnightly basis. The schedule was frantic, as was the auction activity, building many strong professional relationships along the way, and helping motor dealers secure great stock for their car yards. I’ve also been involved in a number of charity auctions, including the Hot Rods and Hot Dogs charity event held at Ford Australia, the Shitbox and Mystery Box rally events, and even a live auction at the Irish Chamber of Commerce annual luncheon
I really enjoy the variety of cars that arrive for auction, it never ceases to amaze me just what is out there. I’ve been involved in the sales of some of the rarest cars in Australia, some that you have no doubt heard of, and other sales which remain off the radar away from the public eye.
